From Dad's Workshop To Three Generations Behind The Counter

The team outside Battery World Maitland

Family is at the heart of Battery World, and nowhere is that clearer this Father's Day than at Battery World Maitland, where three generations of one family work side by side to serve their local community.

Founder Peter Hallinan established Hallinan's Auto Electrical in Maitland in 1978 before purchasing the Battery World franchise in 2001. More than two decades on, he still drops into the business, now run by daughters Belinda Presland and Katie Hallinan.

Grandson Louis Presland, who recently joined the business, represents the third generation.

Seeing the family carry the business forward together is something Peter had always hoped might happen.

Belinda and Katie grew up in and around their father's workshop before taking over Battery World Maitland 19 years ago. They weren't initially sure the industry was for them, having assumed it was a male-dominated space they wouldn't easily fit into.

But attending a Battery World conference changed their minds, showing them the business was about far more than just car batteries, and they've never looked back since.

Watching his daughters build the business has been Peter's proudest achievement, seeing them grow into confident people and confident business owners in their own right.

That legacy is now extending to a third generation, with Peter taking as much satisfaction in mentoring Louis as he once did in building the business itself, and enjoying watching him grow in confidence with customers along the way.

Battery World General Manager Johnny Kennedy said the Hallinan family's story reflected values shared across the network, and stood as a strong example of how family businesses can build lasting community connections while creating a legacy that carries through generations.

For Belinda, the greatest gift her father gave the family wasn't the business itself. He taught them the value of hard work, resilience and backing themselves, through the challenges and the successes they've faced together. What he really gave them was time together, working alongside each other every day, something the family is especially grateful for this Father's Day.
