Footy Club Rises From The Ashes Thanks To ‘Powerful’ Community Camaraderie

Following a devastating fire that turned their thriving club into a pile of dust, Logan Metro Football Club is finally getting back on their feet, thanks to the unwavering support of the local community.

Battery World Browns Plains Franchise Partner Leif Belton knows firsthand the importance of community connection, describing Logan Metro FC as not only a club but a ‘family’ for those who need one.

As long-time major club sponsors, Mr Belton and the team immediately extended a helping hand when they heard the news, donating essential supplies and equipment just in time for the club’s latest recruitment drive.

“As someone that grew up in the area and didn’t have a lot of money, I know just how important this footy club is for young people that desperately need a sense of belonging and purpose,” Mr Belton said.

“When we heard about the fire, it was a no-brainer to step up and support the club. It does so much more for the community than just teaching kids footy, it keeps our children off the streets, doing something they can be motivated and passionate about.”

Logan Metro Football Club President Sam Escobar said they wouldn’t be where they are now without the support of the Battery World Browns Plains team.

“It’s businesses such as this that help us, help others,” Mr Escobar said. “For many, this is their home during the season.

“Sport is such a powerful tool when it comes to connecting people and inspiring them to achieve whatever they put their minds to.

“Many of our players come from disadvantaged backgrounds and rely on our club to be their advocate in life. We need to be there for our players, be rooting for them no matter what, and provide a space they can truly thrive in.

Mr Escobar said the club was hoping “to be up and running as soon as possible.

“We currently have no change rooms for our players, and no canteen which is a major income for the club, so we’re desperate to have our renovation plans approved.”

To kickstart the rebuild, the club recently hosted a community appeal to raise much-needed awareness and funds for their upcoming season.

“It was so great to see the community show up for our players and get involved. We even had the Battery Man mascot there to keep the kids entertained all day long,” Mr Escobar added.

“To everyone that came and supported us, we say thank you. We’re looking forward to continuing to power the local community and giving our rival teams a run for their money in the season ahead.”
