Rocklea's Rising Star's New Charge - A New Start

01 December 2017 | Store News

Rocklea’s Adam Healey admits he never thought he would again own a business after he was physically and emotionally gutted when the family business he was part of burnt down three years ago.

For the last two years he’s managed three Battery World stores for another franchisee moving between Browns Plains, Morayfield and Rothwell where his talents were identified by management: and he was offered a chance in the company’s fledgling ‘rising star’ program.

So much like the Phoenix rose from the ashes, Adam now finds himself back in the driver’s seat: this time flying solo in his own Battery World business.

“The fire really took its toll on our family who to this day still remains quite fractured,” he said. “We went from roosters to feather dusters overnight. Even with insurance you never really get back to exactly where you were financially, so the rising star program was a blessing. It comes with it a number of incentives and reduced fees to allow employees to step up their game and become business owners. It is a fantastic way to own your own business. It really is a joint venture because if you lose, they lose.”

Married with two young children: while this self proclaimed ‘car addict’ has owned several old Holden’s, he will happily talk any make and model with the owner who needs a battery changing.

He brings a wealth of experience having worked in a number of fields before joining the family business.

“I have had more starts than Phar Lap,” he said,” From a plant manager at Boral to working as a courier driver, so you are never too old to take the bull by the horns and become your own boss. The Rocklea store has pretty much been a driverless ship with different franchisees stepping into keep it running until someone came along to buy the store – so I am keen to share my experiences with customers.

“My business ethic is pretty simple: treat customers how I want to be treated. I love my cars, I love to fish and I really love talking to people. I have already been getting to know locals by setting up an information stand at the Rocklea markets and aim to be a part of this community as much as I can.”
