Rising Star Rian Ready With New Retail Charge For Gawler

It's no secret working in a business affords you the best experience to run it, but as Rian van Embden discovered it also gave him the charge to buy that business giving him the opportunity to be his own boss.
With a clear strategy of rapid expansion and growth, Battery World Australia identified a real driver in taking food staff within the national network and ensuring they had a long-term future with the company.
Mr van Embden is the first graduate of the company's 'Rising Star' program where staffers are mentored, given business advice and an opportunity to buy into the business - becoming entreprenuers in their own right.
"I have been with Battery World for more than six years," he said ,"I started off working at Battery World Glynde where I built on my technical knowledge on batteries. When the franchisee Vince Petruzzella opened Parafield I was promoted to manager so I honed my skills on the day-to-day running of a store: ordering stock, staff rosters and wages along with all the other consumer and retail ins and outs. Adding to all of that, working with Vince in opening a brand new store gave me invaluable experience - I could hit the ground running when I opened Gawler."
Not only is Mr van Embden opening the company's 101th store: this is also a homecoming for the born and bred Gawler local.
He has returned with his 12 month old daughter and his wife Tanya, who with nearly 10 years in customer service, will work with him.
"I always loved living in Gawler but left to work in the oil industry, so it is nice to settle back here to raise my family," he said, "My Battery World journey was quite by accident: I injured my knee and retail work was suggested as an interim occupation to get me back in the workforce while recovering. The most important thing I have learnt in running a business is that everything hinges on customer service and being able to help people. Bad service is the bugbear of every shopper."
"We understand people are not thrilled when they have to buy this 'must have battery' and understand everyone is looking for the cheapest deal on the internet. But we have all been burnt by buying something that wasn't quite what we were after. Then you have the rigmarole of going to the post office, returning it then waiting for a replacement. We are about doing the best by our customers right from the start."
"Battery technology is moving ahead in leaps and bounds: our constant need to stay powered up and fully charged has allowed Battery World to not only remain relevant in the retail sector but also an essential."
Australia's commitment to renewable energy targets will see major inroads to energy storage with a whole range of energy solutions from batteries and solar thermal technology to biomass and pumped hydro.
Battery World national Network Development Manager Alex Forbes said the company has identified at least eight more sites in South Australia to open stores: locations include Mount Gambier, Port Lincoln and Port Augusta.
"We can now offer expert advice in more locations in Australia than ever before," Alex said, "The Gawler opening means being able to offer the best in national coverage to customers. We have just trademarked, as 'Batteryologists' so confident are we that our franchisees offer expert advice.
